September 2016

ASB sponsored Back To School Spirit Week to get everyone energized.

October 2016

Homecoming Week Activities occurred October 10- October 15th. In addition to Spirit Week and the traditional Pep Rally, which included fun games and performances, the theme for the Homecoming Dance was "A Night at a Mystery Mardi Gras." The New Gym was transformed into a festive New Orleans-style carnival complete with stilt-walkers, clowns, plenty of lights, a photo booth, and plenty of food. Breanna Perez and Daelyn Dunn were voted Homecoming Queen and King respectively and were crowned at the half time show of the Homecoming football game.

ASB also sponsored a voter education event on Thursday, October 20th to help educate the community on the various ballot initiatives that voters in San Diego would vote on in November. At that event, there was a candidate forum featuring the two women who sought the seat representing Lincoln on the SDUSD School Board.

November 2016

ASB began the I Am Lincoln campaign, also known as #IAmLincoln, to let the community know about all of the positive things happening at Lincoln. With the help of HiveTV, several ASB students spoke from their own positive personal experiences about the numerous programs and opportunities at Lincoln. Further, ASB, along with selected students, visited Knox and Millennial Tech Middle Schools to talk with 8th graders about their experiences at Lincoln, so as to dispel some of the myths about Lincoln and to encourage them to attend Lincoln as 9th graders. The Lincoln Drumline joined ASB on the successful trip.

Also, to show our support for veterans, ASB members made Veterans' Day cards for hospitalized and disabled veterans to thank them for their service to our country.

ASB gave input to the administration regarding the implementation of the attendance and tardy policy.

ASB also gave input to district employee Ms. Pam King regarding the proposed Innovation Center.

Along with the Circle of Friends, members of ASB went to St. Paul's Villa, a senior citizen home, to sing holiday carols and spread joy.

Lincoln Lights

ASB sent Holiday Greetings to each of the Centers and operational departments in the form of Holiday posters. Designed by ASB members, the posters thanked faculty and staff for their contributions to the school.

To support our clubs on campus, ASB sponsored Foodie Fest on Dec. 9th during lunch. Foodie Fest is an opportunity for clubs and student organizations to sell food and drink as a fundraiser.

Additionally, the Class of 2017, with support from ASB members, sponsored the 1st Annual Lincoln Lights, a winter festival inspired by December Nights in Balboa Park, on the evening of December 16th on Lincoln Lane. The well-attended event had a variety of games, food, music, and a visit from Santa Claus.

Jannuary 2017

In January 2017, ASB embarked on an enormous task to write personal thank you notes to each staff person on our campus, even the non-instructional staff such as custodians and cafeteria workers, so as to show our appreciation for all of the work they do to make our school run smoothly. ASB also gave admin feedback on the implementation of the attendance and tardy policy. We continue to sell our #IAmLincoln t-shirts, which are on sale while supplies last for $15. We ended the month by beginning a new semester with a lunchtime rally in the Center Quad where Channel 93.3's DJ Criz played the "turn up" music that brought everyone together. At the rally, the Class of 2017 Cabinet shared upcoming dates and info that would be of importance to seniors.

February 2017

ASB had many activities happening in February. A few new member joined the ASB class. These were students who hold positions, but were not in the class first semester. Mr. Bacon rolled out a new grading process, rooted in attending events as well as completing activities to serve individual position, the greater ASB, the school, and the greater Lincoln Community. As a result, ASB students began attending a number of campus-wide meetings and events including Site Governance Team, the Parent-Teacher Organization, athletic contests, and other school and community events. This gives ASB greater visibility in the community and more opportunities to provide input on matters affecting the school and students. ASB accepted a $750 donation to the ASB General Fund from the US Army to help with purchase of a new mascot. ASB students gave input into the Innovation Center's development with Mrs. Pam King of SDUSD's Family and Community Engagement. For Valentine's Day, ASB sold Valentine Grams, so that Hornets could show their love for other Hornets. Alexis Montoya (President of the Class of 2018) and Kyle Manosack (ASB Secretary) attended Laurels for Leaders with ASB President Biianca Benford, her mother, Ms. Marilyn Benford, and Mr. Malykke Bacon, ASB Advisor, where President Benford received a leadership scholarship along with other ASB Presidents across San Diego County.

ASB also had a planning retreat to meld as an organization, explore the community, and planning activities for the remainder of the year. Ms. Audria Fox-Williams of Urban Alchemy, along with a few of her collegaues, led team-building activities. Then, ASB students walked to the EarthLab near Millenial Tech Middle School to meet with members of the Groundworks Team, who provided lunch, and area experts on renewable energy sources and sustainability in San Diego County. The walk gave students an opportunity to explore the community in a different way and to be seen by the community.

For Black History Month, ASB offered a Black History question for every reading of the announcements. Further, the San Diego-based spoken word artists, Black Xpression, came to the Center Quad on February 28th to share their original works with Lincoln.

March 2017

"March was a busy month for ASB at the Hive. ASB spent time bonding at the Escape Room San Diego in early March, a team-building activity that is highly recommended. The championship season for our winter sports teams provided many exciting moments. ASB provided spirit buses to many of the playoff and all championship games. Our girls' basketball team and our girls' soccer team won CIF Championships in their respective divisions, while our boys' basketball team came in 2nd in their CIF division. ASB also helped to build spirit with a spirit week the week of Mar. 6th which culminated in a Foodie Fest and a school-wide pep rally. The pep rally was featured on KUSI whose story also highlighted the 27 students accepted to UCSD. The day before we went to Spring Break, we had a fun lunchtime rally which brought hundreds to the Center Quad."

April 2017

The month of April 2017 was a busy month for Lincoln's ASB. ASB members maintained their participation at meetings for various school-wide committees including Site Governance Team, Parent-Teacher Organization, and English Learner Advisory Committee, offering the student voice when needed. ASB committed to attending at least one of each spring team's games/meets as a way to increase our visibility and spirit. We hosted a performance of BMX athletes which was sponsored by the US Army Reserves for students had good academic and attendance records. JAM'N 95.7 sent two DJs out to light up our lunch period on April 7th with a lunch time dance party. On the 12th, ASB sponsored a trip to CSU-San Marcos to hear a presentation from renowned educator Jane Elliott, creator of the Brown-Eyed, Blue-Eyed exercise. Mrs. Elliott met with the Lincoln group privately prior to her presentation, posing for pics and answering questions. We sponsored a Spirit Egg Hunt on April 14th; 5 eggs, which were randomly distributed around the campus, had a golden ticket, which afforded recipients to get a Spirit Basket full of Lincoln swag. Two ASB students provided the student voice on the interview panel for the principal selection committee on April 24th. Lastly, ASB sponsored the 3rd Annual College Fair on April 29th in the New Gym.

Area 4-year and community colleges sent representatives and a number of area alumni from the nation's HBCUs attended and represented their alma maters as well. Also, the president of Clark Atlanta University, Dr. Ronald Johnson, and his wife visited the campus for the college fair while they were in the San Diego area on official business.

May 2017

The month of May was full of activity around the Hive for ASB. We welcomed our new mascot to the Hive and it will be present at Lincoln events going forward as well as representing Lincoln in the community. ASB students again participated in the process to select Lincoln's new principal and we were all very proud at the decision to appoint Mr. Soto. On May 10th, ASB hosted a reception to celebrate our teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week. ASB also worked with the Lincoln Admin team to organize events to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Lincoln's re-opening. At one event primarily for staff and students, staff who have been at the school since the re-opening were recognized for their service. At an evening event, alum, former staff, current staff, students, and community members celebrated Lincoln's first decade in this new configuration.

At the evening event, the current class presidents contributed artifacts to a time capsule which is buried on campus. We also had our last Spirit Week of the year, Teachers v. Students: A Week of Wars. Each day had a competitive spirit as the staff was tasked with one thing and students with a comparable. For example, staff wore Disney gear one day while students wore

Teacher Appreciation

Cartoon Network gear. The Spirit Week culminated in a lunchtime Pep Rally where a student received a pie in the face, because more staff showed up with spirit than students. Finally, ASB participated in the program, Bringing The Light, which allowed community partners to provide information about the services they offer to the community.
