Parent Sexuality Information Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

State law requires that parents/guardians be notified of any school classes providing instruction in sex education and/or sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS. In San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), Family Life, Sex Education and HIV prevention are required in grades 6, 8, and high school. Programs include information on puberty and reproductive anatomy, relationships, refusal skills, sexually transmitted disease (STDs) and HIV/AIDS. These lessons comply with state education requirements and include:

  1. Information on the nature of HIV and STDs including methods of transmission.
  2. Discussion of methods to reduce the risk of HIV and STD infection.
  3. Information on local resources for HIV testing and medical care.
  4. Development of refusal skills.
  5. Discussion of societal views on HIV/AIDS including stereotypes and myths.

To provide you with the opportunity to preview instructional materials, a meeting will be held at Lincoln High School time and date will be determined. A school staff member will be available to discuss program objectives and answer questions. You may also review a copy of Education Codes pertaining to HIV/AIDS instruction and sex education on the District website:
